Burning the Koran?

A group of Christians in Florida wants to burn piles of Korans and I have to ask why? What's it going to do except provoke violence in the Muslim world?
I am reminded of this Bible verse....
Romans 12:18 (NIV)
18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
I know these Christians mean well. I know they are really sending out a message to the many radicals in the Islamic world. However I think choosing to have a prayer service for them would be much more powerful, burning their Koran's won't serve any purpose except to ignite anger. Why not fervantly pray for them, ask God that they would one day come to Christ, and why not get involved with a Christian charity ministering and giving in the Islamic world?
Also I think thus far they are showing disregard for our top general in Afghanistan who has asked them not to do this. He firmly believes this will harm our troops and any progress we are making in the Islamic world. Not to mention the missionaries abroad in Islamic countries.
I hope these Christians change their mind. This is not the message we want to send as Christians. Oh don't get me wrong we should defend ourselves and attack when we have to against any terrorist, there is indeed "at time for war," but as Christians we still need to love our enemies and this is not the way to do that. We should "live at peace as much as it depends" on us. Provoking them isn't going to accomplish that.
Romans 12:17-21 (NIV)

17Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"says the Lord. 20On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good

False Teacher # 1 - Jon Crowder

This video speaks for itself. This man is a false teacher and is not from God.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GrmRUtD7LE&feature=related

This dude is "whack!" You know many things are wrong with this man. He claims to be a "mystic," which is nothing new, but he certainly doesn't have sound doctrine, nor does he "test" the spirits. From his fat frier tuck angels whom serve him, his focus on angels, his claim of BEING IN TWO PLACES at once, or embracing God's DRUNKEN GLORY.

Colossians 2:18

Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions.

This is just one verse of many that comes to mind when I hear this false teacher. If you read Colossians it pretty much addresses the issues of mystics and any "secret knowledge" they claim to have.

History and Public School

Read earlier post and you'll see my wife and I aren't choosing public school upfront. We like our public schools, but sense private school is best for now. One day it's most likely I'll send my kids to public school when they are older.

So when/if my kids go to public school one thing I will be doing is homeschooling them on history. Not because they teach history bad, but because the content is starved of richness. If we go the public school route in later elementary it will mainly be supplementary things in this confines of their history lessons. In middle school it may be history at home all together.

Okay I think I've killed education for a while. Probably won't be blogging about it unless issues come up. I am burnt out. It's been an awesome process looking into this issue and deciding how I will educated my kids.

Homeschool stat number 2, my issue with academics

It's absolutely clear that homeschool kid's are producing great results. That is something I won't question. The statistic is very true.....

homeschool kids score on average in the 80th percentile
private school kids score on average in the 70th percentile
public school kids score on average in the 50th percentile

I don't question the validity of the above numbers. What I take aim is that you never hear in those studies just how many kids are in the above systems. Which are......

2.5 million kids are involved in some type of homeschool
7 million kids in private school
50 million kids in public school

How can we accurately compare numbers like that in regards to percentiles? Public schools have 50,000,000 million kiddo's. Who come from all sorts of backrounds. From homes of neglect or abuse. To genuinely purposeful and loving homes. With kids who have learning disabilities, special needs, and emotional problems. The control factors are much less. Public schools by law have to take everyone. Private schools can deny or accept whom they want and control population size. Homeschoolers have even more control over the factors. There is no doubt that private or home school systems CAN have an advantage on teacher to student ratio as well.

For example when we compare kids on the same test inside those 3 systems....naturally public school numbers will always be lower.I really want to find a specific study on how students who come from purposeful Christian homes who place a strong emphasis on education do on those same test. To me that would tell me more than generalized comparisons.

Again I am not questioning the results of home or private schooled kids. I am just questioning the validity of how we compare the academic percentiles of students among the 3 systems.
